Have A Hunch You Should Pack Your Lunch?

The benefits of bringing lunch from home are as far-reaching as your options when you opt to bring your lunch from home! Not only does packing lunch save you money on the repeated expense of getting food on the go, but it allows you to fine-tune your cuisine to meet your dietary desires. Some fast food places are happy to make it your way, but that level of personalization doesn’t compare to the excitement of selecting the unique and exciting proteins, carbs, and healthy fats of your choice. How to Keep Your Christmas Tree Fresh

How to take care of your Christmas Tree

The holidays are here, families are eager to get started decorating and a Christmas tree is at the top of the list. There are many articles about how to keep your tree fresh all through the holidays. Here are a few great ideas to get you started. If you need more information, you can always ask your local tree farmer.

Fresh or From the Christmas Tree Lot on the Corner?

  • First off, if want your tree to last, cutting one yourself at the local tree farm is always best.
  • If you do purchase from the corner tree lot, be sure to ask the lot attendant to cut a few inches off the bottom in order to help your tree absorb the water it needs easily.

Hydrate Your Tree Immediately!

  • The experts suggest that you put your tree in water immediately before the sap has a chance to seal up the stump. This usually happens within the first 4 – 5 hours after the tree is cut.
  • A freshly cut tree can absorb as much as a gallon of water.
  • Some say adding a little sugar or crushed aspirin to the water will increase the lifespan of your tree.
  • Assigning a family member to check the water under the tree daily will insure that your tree never gets thirsty!

Keep Your Tree Safe.

  • When transporting your tree, try to stay off the highway and avoid heavy winds. If you must travel the highway, covering your tree is wise.
  • Keeping your tree away from heater vents, sunny windows, and the fireplace will prevent it from drying out too quickly.
  • Be sure to keep the family pet from drinking the water from under the tree.

Be sure to RECYCLE your tree!

Trees can be recycled and put to good use in your community! If you are not sure where to take your tree, do a simple online search, or check your city website. They may have information for you there.
